Advice on Books about Personal Finance

There are so many books out there on personal finance and some of them are expensive.   Most, however, are affordable and do give a lot of advice on wealth building, money management and financial independence.

Before you buy a book on personal finance or are offered a good discount on one here is some advice

Know Where You Stand

If you want financial advice, you must know your situation right now because knowing this situation will help you when coming to choose the right book for you. Where on the wealth building journey are you right now or where do you think you are stuck at?

Who you are will and does help to direct you to the right book or books on financial advice as many books on financial independence even though they have good advice, may not all be geared to your particular situation; no matter how popular the book is.

Are you employed and living salary to salary or have you gotten a bonus and want to grow this money? Or, are you just starting out in business, newly wed, or a student needing to make extra money?

Know where you stand right now so you choose a book that will give you advice best suited for you.

Peruse and Assess

Before you buy the book your friends or boss is recommending have a look at the way it is written. Some books are full of technical jargon, professorial language, and some have pages of diagram that may be of no use to your situation.

Try and buy books that have information that speaks to you, are practical, clear, straight forward and use language familiar to you. The diagrams, if any should have explanations that are easy for you to understand.

Even when you do understand academic language, do make sure the book offers some practical solutions and that it is not theory heavy. Any book that has an emphasis on solutions is always better for you.
